The idol portrays Lord Ram as a five-year-old child standing with a smiling face. Scuplted by the Arun Yogiraj from Mysuru, the 51-inch idol is carved out of black stone.
It was placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple on Thursday, following its arrival on Wednesday night amidst prayer chants, as per the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust. Anil Mishra, a member of the trust, performed the ‘pradhan sankalp’, signifying the idol’s installation for the welfare of humanity and the nation, and acknowledging those who contributed to the temple’s construction.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the consecration ceremony, which temple trust general secretary Champat Rai says will begin at 12:20 pm on January 22. The temple is expected to open to the public the following day.
The rituals for the temple consecration started from January 12. On January 22, PM Modi will perform the puja for the “Pran Pratistha’, sources have said. A team of priests led by Lakshmikant Dixit will perform the main rituals of the Pran Prathistha.
